Transparent Pavilion

Transparent Pavilion

This is a transformation project situated in Changpuhe Park, Chang'an Street, Beijing. The original building is a courtyard dwelling that combines modern and traditional features. With the task of transforming the courtyard to increase usable area and expand space for activities, we embedded an annular pavilion in the yard. The inner circle area is centered on an old tree, while the outer circle is connected with the rooms surrounding it. The two circles form an excentric ring-shaped area in the courtyard, which not only links spaces in the architecture but also serves as an area for leisure activities. Designed in a minimalist style, the pavilion adds lightness, transparency and tranquility to the courtyard space.
