A Space Magnified by Mirrors

A Space Magnified by Mirrors

The project is located in B1 of a building, and the goal is to repurpose the space into a place for catering and leisure activities. Since the original space is an additional part of the whole building and it can share some functions of other spaces, only a dining area, a KTV lounge and barrooms are needed to be added. The challenge lies in the low ceiling height, which is only 2.5 meters. Considering this, we focus on maximizing each individual spaces while ensuring that necessary functions are served. We plan to use grilles as partitions in the space. The grille structures meander across the entire space and enclose areas for different functions. Most importantly, the grilles further separate the overall interior space into several "internal spaces" which are given certain functions and "external spaces" without specific functions. In the "external spaces", mirrors are laid on the floor and walls, which produce reflections and create the illusion of more space. Furthermore, different modes of lighting can generate varying relaxing atmosphere in each single space.
